WinGS, what’s that?

January 12th, 2009

I want to take a minute and kinda explain about what WinGS is. WinGS is an acronym for Women in God’s Service and it includes all women. It is the women’s ministry of Stonebrook Church. There is a small group of women that feel led to serve God through serving women and we are the planning team. The planning team consist of myself (Tami Norman), Rae Nell Whitaker, Brandi Beech, Frances McClure, Kris Francis and Teresa “Sonshine” Williams. What this team does is try to provide opportunities for women to get together with each other and grow closer to God. The planning team meets as needed and that is pretty much monthly. We do not put these meeting times in the bulletin. The planning team tries to do the set up, clean up, scheduling and advertising for our meetings/events. Any information for WinGS is for all women. There is an opening on the planning team right now, if anyone is interested let me know. If you have ideas or suggestions for WinGS activities, outings, studies, etc., please let one of us know. You can check here or the bulletin board across from the women’s restroom for up coming events. If you will scroll down you will see what we have going on in January.

winGs January Events

January 6th, 2009

Wow, the weather outside is frightful! It’s all rainy and yucky. It’s nice to know that one day pretty soon there will be green sprouting from the trees and wonderful flowers shooting up through the ground as a result of the rain. Ain’t God good!!!!
I have some information for the month of January. The winGs meeting is on 1-18 following the worship service. The theme is (what else) ice. A warm lunch of soups will be provided with everyone bringing crackers, breads, drinks and desserts. Carolyn Leary is bringing the message that day and I can hardly wait! She is such a good teacher and speaker and she always teaches me something. We, of course, will have a game, with a prize or 2 (which Amy won’t win LOL) and I will be discussing the 2009 calendar, so bring your ideas and suggestions with you. Be prepared to have fun, spend time with friends and most of all meet with God. There will be a sign up sheet in the foyer starting this Sunday (11th).
On 1-23 (a Friday night) we will meet at Mi Camino Real @ 1890 Almaville Rd in Smyrna for Dinner and a Ladies night out!!! Come on ladies you know you need a night away to laugh and eat good food and relax. Just think, no cooking, no dishes and no Mom, where is my… or Mom, when is… Well, you get the point. Make plans now to join us at 6 pm.
I am pleased to announce that we will start our next Ladies only Bible study on Jan 20th and it is a good one. It’s Jesus, The One And Only by Beth Moore. It will run for 11 weeks and the workbook cost $15. I am so excited to dive into God’s word with you all! It will be at 6:30 at night for (approximately) 2 hours. Sign ups for this begin this Sun also, so get your writing hand ready. If you need more info on the study see Kris Francis.

winGs 2009

December 31st, 2008

Well Ladies, the Christmas rush is over. All the presents have been opened (and if it was at like my house, it was in a flurry of about 2.3 seconds). Sometimes I think the grandkids would be happy if I just wrapped a few empty boxes. Although they like their gifts, I think they like the unwrapping the best. I guess there is just something about the mystery. Even though Christmas is behind us, I hope the meaning of it stays with you all the time. I don’t mean shoppers pushing and shoving or wondering how you are going to buy all you have to buy and keep the electricity on. I mean the feelings of love and joy that seem to be so easy to obtain this time of year. Notice I didn’t say happiness, I said joy. There is a difference you know. Happiness is about things and people, joy is about knowing that there is a God and (in the words of Beth Moore in her study Believing God) that He can do what He says He can do. I seldom get caught up in worry because I know that God already knows what is going to happen to any given situation and that He will work things out for my benefit, even if it doesn’t seem that way at the time. I like knowing that He has a plan for my life. He has a plan for yours too. Spend some time with Him as we start this new year and see if you can figure out what He is saying to you.
Make 2009 the year that you “walk” with God just a little closer and it will be a good one.

We will be announcing soon the schedule for January. Hopefully we will have a meeting, an outing of some sort and a new opportunity for a group Bible study or 2. If you have any ideas, suggestions or question PLEASE stop me in the hall at church or give me a call. I’m always open to new ideas!
I hope God will bless you and yours this new year! See you Sunday. Tami

Happy New Year!
